Today was the day of the event, I was asked by my group to print of some large colored copies of the poster, I did so and started placing them around the college so that they'd catch the eyes of passerby's, sadly the event did not go as well as we had originally hoped that it would. But I enjoyed creating it nonetheless. I have formed a long lasting bond with the members and found the experience to be educational and fun.

We were outside this week trying to gain attention and participants for the event, we started by walking around and asking them if they'd be interested in taking part in the event. we gathered a large amount of people and were all quite proud of what we'd achieved it was a good morning as many of the college staff and students wanted to take part in the event. I met with my group and had our routine meeting agreeing on what we would be doing I was asked to create the Facebook page for the College Cowboy Event so that we could use it on the day of the event. It was a menial but important task that I did so with ease. I was then asked to create a poster for the week before the event. I did so and handed in in so that my group could use it the next week.

I met with my group this morning, we decided that we would start working on our individual tasks I presented the poster to them which was met with a lot of praise as they were all pleased with the finished product. Once I'd returned to college I attended my first group meeting and learned about the roles that everyone had taken, I was asked about my IT skill and preceded to inform my group about the skills I had and what I was capable of. They decided to give me the role of IT as it was the most fitting and I had the most know how out of the group I was asked if I could design a poster and I agreed to think of a design and start working on it.

I was not present this Wednesday as I fell ill although I communicated with colleagues they informed me of what I had missed and filled me in with all of the details that I needed to know about the course and what the class would be doing from this point forward. They explained to me that the class would be splitting into several groups. each of them would be creating and hosting an event that they'd be fully responsible for. I was asked to join the College Cowboy group as they valued my IT skill and wanted me to bring my talents to the team. I joined and was told that I'd be filled in further once I had returned to college.

14.06.17 Wednesday

Today was the final day of our event for Jak's charity. We had stool with cups, CD's, balloons and some other stuff for sale to  raise money for the charity,however the main thin was the College Cowboy - Sandra dressed as a Cowgirl and people had to looking for her around the college.

Personal Evaluation

Well last and final blog post for the Enterprise activity and I am glad to say the least, it was an enjoyable unit and I did have fun but my gosh do I stress over things that I shouldn't have? Yes!! However stressful it was I did enjoy it, getting together with level 4 was also a great idea as it wasn't like normal subjects. We had more imaginations so double the brain power right?

The initial idea of the event was what I enjoyed most, sitting with my team and talking about what ideas we did have and what was plausible for us to do. I also enjoy the main event on the day, even though we never had many people playing along with the treasure hunt it was still an enjoyable day setting everything up and actually hosting the event was a blast. You could tell that even know we didn't have the most customers or players, this was truly enjoyed by us all. Helping with the other stalls and teams when they needed us was also enjoyable, as we all got together and worked our hardest for the full event. The least enjoyable part of the activity was just how far it got strung out at the beginning weeks, although I do understand there was reason behind these other activities but however did find this took a lot of the time away from the actual planning.

The main thing I did hope to achieve whilst doing the enterprise activity was to become easily adjustable within a group and I did achieve this, due to the way this activity was set out this year we were mingled with the level 4's and this helped me learn the skill to be adjustable within a group that I am unfamiliar with. I am taking that skill away with me from the enterprise activity as this has made me more comfortable around the "unknown" as I know it will get used in the workplace. The role I was given as Marketing for the team was a good role and something I did want to improve upon and get more of an insight into, however I feel that because of my experience in leading a team in this type of activity I would have best suited team leader I did though want to allow someone else to have the chance to develop their skills in team leading.

I had a great time doing the enterprise activity and really enjoyed working with such a good team, what a great way to end the college year 😊😊

Individual Evaluation

My main strengths.

I was given the IT role thanks to my IT literacy and know how when using a computer, I was also instructed to create a poster as I was the only member of the group capable of creating a more advanced poster with creation applications that I have used before.

My main weaknesses.

I feel that my sudden introduction to the group and task left me flustered at times leaving me to think of what was actually going on. Although it was swiftly dealt with once I mentioned it to the rest of my group who filled me in and let me know what had been planned.

How will you use this experience to help you in future projects?

I will use my newly acquired skills when working with future groups that I am instructed to work with as I progress down the line of education that I choose. 

How will you use this experience to help you in the workplace?

I can use these skills when working in the future as employers will find someone with marketing talents to be useful and might ask me to help with something down the line.  

How will you use this experience to help you in other social situations?

I can use the talents that I have improved on when socialising as a friend might ask me to design flyers or something for them to post on their Facebook page.

What was the main thing you hoped to achieve from the enterprise activity
I was hoping to gain some new skills as well as learn some new skills to add to my current set of skills and from doing this event I have, it has allowed me to use my skills in a realistic work like scenario.


Did you manage to achieve this? 
Yes, I worked on several skills and even learned some new skills that I can use in future. I am especially happy with what I developed when improving on my current skill set.

Do you feel you worked in the best role for current skills during the project?
Yes, I think that using my IT skills I was able to bring what my team needed and I was able to create what they asked for in good time and make sure that It was applicable and presentable.

My strengths during the project were :

- Communication: I was communicate with my team and others effectively.

- IT: I was good in IT by doing the blog posts and by creating Facebook page for the event.

- Organisation: I also was good in organisation all the stuff for the event e.g. the winner prize and getting the rooms for the photos etc.
b) What were your main weaknesses during the activity?I think my weakness is that I'm still a bit shy but it is now much better than it was at the beginning

-What was the main thing you hoped to achieve from the enterprise activity ?

I was hoping that in this project I will develop new skills such as organising, planning and communicate with other team members. I was hoping that I will improve my IT skills and learn some new techniques from class mates from level5.

I believe that I have achieved this, because I have worked well within the team. I have bought the costume for the college cowboy and also I have prepared all the equipment needed to complete this project.

Yes, I feel that I have worked as good as I could. During this project I have learn many new skills and techniques which will help me with future projects.

Group Evaluation Post

Well this is the final piece of writing to be completed for the Enterprise unit, an overall reflection and evaluation of the unit. Spending time this morning to reflect back on the past 11 weeks of this Enterprise activity, it has been a mixture of emotions within this unit.

As a team I believe we all worked to the best of our abilities and all used our key skills within the 11 weeks. Whilst planning our activity for the event, we really did need our thinking caps on and careful consideration whilst planning the treasure hunt. Due to the nature of our event we did have some health and safety elements that we had to worry about, for example we wanted the cowboy to be in different departments during the hunt however due to health and safety we couldn't allow people playing the treasure hunt to be in and out of the classrooms. So we decided that the people playing would not have to look in rooms for the cowboy but just the department corridors etc. The first week when we got organised into our groups, as a team we all went and sat outside and spoke allowing the ideas to flow, this I feel was beneficial and as a team we could have done this more however due to management meetings each week we felt as a team we didn't get too much time with our team member to discuss things properly about what we were doing each week. Although the lack of team member being there, we as a group did our best and helped each other assist in areas that needed help. I believe that I did have to modify my behaviour at certain times as I am used to playing the role of leader/team leader and at times I did have to remember that it wasn't always my duty to keep on top of everything.

What was the main thing you hoped to achieve

During the activity I hoped to achieve new communication skills and some confidence in going up to people and talk to them to advertise the event. Another thing i hoped to achieve was control over my anger while working in a group.

Did you manage to achieve this

I achieved a bit of it I have managed to get my confidence up when speaking to people about joining in the event or talking to the lectures or staff to get a prize for the winner. I had to talk to the catering staff about getting a free lunch prize for the winner of the college cowboy hunt. I did not really manage to control my anger in the group as there were people in the group that was a bit too much for me and aggravated me a lot. a certain group member was just too much for me to handle as they were very loud and never did any work

Do you feel you worked in the best role

I do feel that I was a good role for achieving communication skills and gaining confidence in talking. for controlling my anger I was not in a good role as I did not really talk to lots of people outside of the group which aggravated me a lot as I was wanting to try and boost my confidence and communication skills.

my main strengths during the activity is that I was full of energy and wanted to raise a good amount of money for jak's den and bring some fun to the college campus. another strength is that I'm a good talker and once I start I can talk for ages and convince people to join in and participate.

what were your main weaknesses?

My weakness is that I can sometimes get shy and not want to talk to at all I would just sit there smiling. Another weakness is that I can get angry very easily it does not take much to set me off the edge and get me angry.

how will you use this experience to help you in future projects?

the way I will use this experience is I have learned that you should always come up with a back up plan when planning a big event like that, if you have a back up plan then if something goes wrong or you cant go through with what you have planned then at least you have something to fall back to so that you can still have your event.

how will you use this experience to help you in the workplace?

I will use this experience to help with team working when I go into the workplace. learning how to work well in a team was handy as I don't usually handle working with other people very well but learning these skills during this unit has been very helpful and I can use it when I go into the workplace.

how will you use this experience to help you in other social situations?

For future social situations this experience will come in very handy. If I have to do something like this again then I can do it as I have learned how to go up to people and talk to them and try to get them interested in participating in the event and donate money to a good cause.

Reflection

1. What was the main thing you hoped to achieve from the enterprise activity ?
 I was hoping that this project will give me good practice of planning and organising skill, also this could be good general experience and also improve my problem solving skill.

2. Did you manage to achieve this ?
Yes, I have been in charge of the taking photos of the College Cowboy, also creating the Facebook page to share the images so people could get the clues to play the Renegade. I have been organising and planning this activities together with Zaneta and Sandra and we have achieved exactly what we discussed and agreed on.

3. Do you feel you worked in the best role for your current skills during the project ?
I don't feel that I have worked in the best role for my current skill, however I have really enjoyed to work on this project together with level 5. It was great experience to see how other students work and think, co-operate and listen to each other. I can honestly say that our team worked very well and we have supported each other along the way.

1. What were your main strengths during the activity? I think my main strength during this activity was that I am very open-minded and always focusing on task. I have also used my communication and listening skill.

2. What were your main weaknesses during the activity? I think that during this activity was my main weakness patience and trying to persuade people to join.

3. How will you use this experience to help you in the future projects? I believe that I will use this experience to help my achieve project in the future.

4. How will you use this experience to help you in the workplace? I'm not really sure how this experience will help me in the workplace. I think that good team working could be an advantage in workplace.

5. How will you use this experience to help you in other social situations?  I pretty sure that this lovely experience will help me in some social situations, for example I will be more confident and calm..

The event went okay did not go the way we were hoping we only had one person doing the college Cowboy hunt which was a bit of a let down since we had so many people sign up the week before the event and none of them showed up.

We still raised a bit of money as we sold jak's den merchandise and people just came up and put some donations in the tub but we still did not raise the amount we were hoping to since no one came to the hunt.

Overall it was a good day and the person who did the hunt enjoyed it.

The Event!! 7th May 2017

Well today was the day of the event and what a blast it was, although it could have been better for our team college cowboys it was still a great event held by all and a great amount raised for a worthy cause!! So today the weather was definitely on our sides as the sun was shining and compared to the day before it was a miracle! First up we all met in class at 9 the event was scheduled to start at 10 when I came in everyone was excited and raring to go, I was amazed at the amount of things people had so nicely donated etc for the tombola and raffle. We had a quick prep from Doug and Sharon then we were all ready to get started and start sorting stalls, this was quick and easy to do so it was just a matter of waiting for people to arrive. In the morning I had tried to add the people who had already paid to the Facebook page, which by the way was a major fail as I had tried to add them to my personal account (mortified tutors and all!!) so that did not go well. So there was some quick thinking to be done, we all spoke and decided that once the people came and paid we would then tell them the Facebook page and the people who had already paid where to be notified. We waited and waited, campus was dead and the people we did ask were too busy doing exams and remediation or simply they just didn't want to take part in our college cowboy. It was off putting as we had so many names at the pre-registration event and even they people never turned up it was frustrating to say the very least. We never let that get our spirits down though and continued to chat to people walking past and managed to haggle 2 lovely people to take part, do not get me wrong although people were not wanting to play there was so many people that donated money to the cause which was lovely. It was just after 10 and we had 2 players, so we started to upload the clues onto the Facebook page Sandra and I. I'm so glad that the pictures were done before hand because if we didn't we sure as heck weren't managing to take pictures and get to the next location quickly without being caught, and with us only having 2 players it would have been extremely difficult. The clues were uploading onto the page up until 11.30 and although in the end there was only one player left, he was determined not to give up. So just before 12.00pm we decided the final clue was to be uploaded and the winner could come and find the "Cowboy" Sandra and be given there gift. Sandra and I sneaked away and Sandra got dressed into the outfit and I would upload the final clue, we waited for around 5 minutes before Kieran found us. He was given his gift and I took a picture of him and Sandra so this could be uploaded on to the page to let others know the cowboy was found, even though no one else was playing anymore! The end of the event and what a great feeling that was, although there wasn't loads of people that took part in our stall there was still people involved in the other stalls and a decent amount of money was raised for a great cause. I really enjoyed this experience and getting the pleasure of working along side some lovely level 4s this truly was a beneficial unit 😊

We never had time to do the other event to get some donations because we were quite busy with our main event.
Today I brought the cowboy costume to college so that we could take photos in the following departments:

- Beauty department
- Childcare department
- Outside the gym
- Mechanic department
- Construction department

And tomorrow we have appointment at 9.00 am in the kitchen department to take our photos.

Today me, Zaneta, Michal and Sharon were able to take the photos in different departments, but we still need to take one more photo in the kitchen department but we have already an appointment to do this for tomorrow morning at 9.

I also send a text message to Daniel today to ask about the voucher.

I also create a Facebook page today with Michal and I make everyone from my group admins so that they can do everything on the page too and I made it private so that only people who are taking part in it can see all the updates.

Today we were planning in which departments we gonna take the photos because we need to ask for a permission first.

So I emailed Doug to get the email addresses for the departments

So after I get the email addresses I send the emails to all the departments regarding to take photos in a empty classrooms.


I also went today with Michal to student association and marketing department to ask if they have something to donate for the event winner but unfortunately they couldn't help us.

Then I went to Daniel to ask him if he could try to help us and get one breakfast or lunch voucher and he said that he need to speak with Angela but probably he will get one.

Today we had a group meeting and we were planning who is doing what and how the event should look like in details.

Thursday activity

Today we had a team meeting at 9am, we have discussed all the things we need to do in order to finish college cowboy project. Me, Sandra and Zaneta went to child care department to take some pictures of the college cowboy, we went also to the hair and beauty department, construction department and restaurant at college . One of us was dressed as the  college cowboy however she or he was covering his or she's face. We will probably need to make some changes to these pictures after all of the members will agreed. 

Enterprise Activity 24th May

Well it's all systems go now in Enterprise Activity, there's only 3 weeks left until the actual event pretty quickly this has went. Today in class was all about firming off the final things we started in class last week. We started a team meeting to begin with and this is where we spoke of the progress and where we are at the moment, After Clarissa came back from the Management meeting it had been discussed in this meeting about holding a event the week before the actual event to raise funds as some teams were having difficulty with gifts/prizes, so a mini fundraiser it is. We want to keep it simple though and not overload people with asking them to donate money and give us money as this can be very tedious for people and we don't want this affecting our actual fundraiser. So it time to start thinking of ideas for what we could do.......

Not long to go now!! 31st May 2017

Well last week in Enterprise before our event and am nervous to say the least! Today we are having a pre-registration event which will be myself, Hayleigh and Clarissa will be holding the stall taking the names and facebook names to get ourselves prepared for next week. We had initially hoped to collect around 15-20 names, but to all our dismay we managed to collect 28 names in total and am sure it was 15 pounds in donations 😲😲 how amazing was that? Pretty amazing, as a team myself, Clarissa, Hayleigh and Greg put on our charm and impeccable people/customer skills and bag 28 names for the hunt!! Today was a complete success, Sandra, Michael and Zaanetta completed the photo shoot for the uploading of pics on the day. We are pretty much covered for the day now just need to have a practice run before the day, am nervous but also excited as with all Enterprise activities I have personally been involved in there was always a storm before the calm. Today to begin with I was feeling slightly stressed as I felt we as a team had not been prepared enough for the pre-registration event, and everything was done pretty last minute however my wonderful team done it we managed it. I think a key lesson for me today was communication is KEY! Reminder for the remaining week we must all stay in contact and make sure every detail is ready to say GO next week.

Today we had a team meeting and we have discuss some changes we need to do because of low budget. I am going to create detailed list of resources which we are going to need for our enterprise activity. I will also take detailed minutes of our meeting to improve my note taking skill and IT skill by sending word documents to my team members.

Sorry this is super late im having to try catch up with all my blog posts at one time!

Every week after the managers meeting it doesn't leave me much time to actually complete my own tasks and get it posted on this, so apologies!

I just wanted to talk a bit more about my role in the group and why I accepted this role.

So I am the group leader. This means im in charge of the running of the group and making sure everything runs smoothly. I accepted this role because I have done it before but also because im still trying to improve on my timekeeping skills. I have such an awesome hardworking group beside me to make this event a success and im very please with how things have been going.

Today we had a team meeting to discuss all the things we need to prepare and staff we need to get and we have also decided who is going to be the team leader.
I am going to do internet research about social media treasure hunts and how successful they were. This give us an idea how successful we are going to be. We spoke about what the Cowboy is going to wear and who is it going to be the college Cowboy.

My role and why I have accepted it. My role in this project is photographer and IT because I have to get better with taking proper images and upgraded them in photo shop plus improve my IT skills by creating spread sheets and list of sources and list of costs. I want to also work on and improve my communication skills with the team and with other departments at college.

Wendesday Game Plan

Today after our team meeting - we have decided that we need some more prices for the lucky winner.
Michal and Sandra went to student association to ask if we can get some pens, flash drive or stress balls but unfortunately they can't donate any of those items because there is none left. Anyway, after we have spoken with student association we went to marketing department to find out if they can help us with some prices for our fund raiser. Unfortunately, they told us that there is nothing they can do for us.

Enterprise Activity 17th May!

Well it's Wednesday and we as a team have had a great morning so far, Clarissa our Team Manager took 5 minutes out to delegate our roles today and what we had to do in the next couple hours. My job today was to write up a brief summary of what our groups aim is and what we expect to get out of this. It's very exciting now as the plans are coming together and we are all working as team. I was given the job role of the Marketing Team myself and Hayleigh, I choose the role as I normally take the roles of team leader or manager. I feel like I should get the experience of Marketing a big event and develop the skills I need to further develop my existing skills. I feel this will give me a challenge and am eager to see what the next few weeks holds!!

Enterprise Activity!!

Well it's that time of year again in the Business department at West Lothian College and it's Enterprise activity, one thing I have always enjoyed doing. Once the block started it was a bit worrying as we knew we where setting up some sort of fundraiser for a local charity Jaks Den, fundraisers where something most students seen almost every block with most departments hosting the "usual" activities such as Cake Sales and Tombola's. This time around we all knew as students and tutors that the "usual" just was not going to do us all justice as Business Students, so that's when we all have to think outside the box. It was fun doing mini activities before the initial start of our fundraising ideas, and during this as a class we all hosted various treasure hunts around the campus. The group I was paired in decided to think outside the box and come up with a digital treasure hunt, something similar to what was on a local radio station. This was a great success and great fun at the same time. The following week that is when the class where all sat down and decided what activities we where going to host as a department for the fundraiser, during this many wonderful ideas where called out but as soon as I heard the digital treasure hunt was on the agenda I jumped at the chance ti be working within that group. So the groups where delegated and I was pleasantly surprised with whom I was teamed up with, the groups all met and went and initially spoke of the plans and ideas we all had. This was brilliant we all had a great input and had really good ideas about the planning and preparation of the event. We decided on the name The College Cowboy and started thinking of what we could do with the cowboy and how we could make this event long lasting and fun!! So far we have decided on outfits for the cowboy and roughly where they will be hided. Next class tomorrow that is when the real fun starts, the preparing and planning I hope we all have our thinking caps on in the morning ☺😀
